At The Alexa Trust we support parents with babies in neonatal. Currently working with the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford and The Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital in Margate. In the long run we aim to support neonatal parents in all Kent hospitals. Our project for 2017/2018 is to support breastfeeding mums in neonatal. Breastfeeding or providing preemies with donor milk is extremely vital, as it provides essential nutrients to grow and fight off infection. In this stressful situation it can become a great challenge for mums to provide milk, sometimes due to the fact that mums are ill themselves. Rates of successful breastfeeding, expressing milk and receiving donor milk s still poor and we hope to make a difference in this aspect too, through providing mums with the equipment and tools they need, education and awareness.
